How Many Mock Tests Should You Take Before an Exam?

15 Sep 2026 · TestMint Team

There is no single number that works for everyone. The right count depends on how much time you have and what stage of preparation you are in.

Early preparation: one every two weeks

When you are still completing the syllabus, a full mock is mostly a diagnostic. One every couple of weeks is enough to spot weak areas and guide what to study next.

Mid preparation: one per week

Once most of the syllabus is done, move to one mock a week. This is where mocks start to do real work — building stamina and revealing which topics are still leaking marks.

Final preparation: two or three per week

In the last few weeks, increase frequency but shorten review time. The goal now is exam simulation and rhythm, not learning new material.

Quality beats quantity

Ten tests reviewed carefully are worth more than thirty tests attempted and forgotten. Always reserve as much time for review as for the attempt itself — see how to analyse your results.

Balance mocks with syllabus work

Mocks should not replace study. A simple rule: if a mock reveals a weak topic, fix that topic with focused practice tests before your next full mock.
